New Delhi: Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla stated on Monday that the presiding officers lack a switch or remote control to silence members who raise concerns in the House.
Mr. Birla strongly objected to MPs making disparaging remarks about the Chair, claiming that the presiding officers switch off their microphones when members stand to speak in the House.
The Speaker expressed grave worry at the claim that the Chair had switched off the microphone and stated that he wanted the House to discuss the subject.
“The Chair only issues instructions or rulings. In the House, the person whose name is called has the right to speak. The Chair gives the commands for controlling the microphone. “There is no remote control or microphone switch for the person seated in the chair,” he stated.
According to Mr. Birla, all political party members are represented on the panel of chairpersons that oversees the proceedings when the Speaker is not present.
“The Chair’s honor is at stake in this. Such criticisms need to be reserved, at the very least, for those who hold the Chair. (K) Suresh holds the Chair as well. Is the Chair in charge of the microphone?” the Speaker asked the seasoned member of Congress.

“There isn’t a button on my device to turn off the microphone. An previous setup was comparable. “There isn’t a way to mute the microphone,” stated Mr. Birla on Friday.
